My challenge was to build a silent MythTV set-top box. I planned to run mythfrontend on this to connect to my MythTV backend system that would be located elsewhere in the house. That's all well and good, but what did my desires really translate into in terms of hard requirements?
- Silent operation
- Display standard definition video in mythfrontend
- Direct to TV output
- A/V Equipment Aesthetics
- Remote Control
- Based on readily available off the shelf components
- Self contained OS and software (no network booting off some other server, etc.)
- Most cost effective end result possible
Some of these requirements were easier to address than others, and some just fell into place as other items were addressed.
