How to Make a TV Antenna for HDTV

Build your own HDTV antenna out of a few coat hangers and a few parts from the hardware store. HDTV antennas do not need to be expensive or complicated. This excellent HOWTO was referenced on the MythTV mailing list.

Very much in the MythTV "build your own" spirit, this is worth a try if you use, or want to use, over the air HD. Use the comment form to let us know how you make out!

Works great!

I had all the parts around the house so it didn't cost me a penny. Gives me better reception than the Philips Silver Sensor indoor antenna I bought for $30. Works great standing up (in my case I hung it on the back of my entertainment center) or lying down.

Tried, but did not work

Hello, I was very excited to try this and improve the reception of our DTV box. I tried it the way the video set it up, and also the way the link at the top of the comments suggested. This did not work as well as our $25 antenna. Any ideas. I took it apart and refiled all the connections and that did not work. I got the specific transformer from Radioshack also. Please help. Thanks, Aaron

I live in Sherman, Texas and I built the antenna and it works. I only had 3 channels and now i have 6. Still looking to improve though.

Antenna Works!

I built this antenna and it works beautifully! I live in Bowling Green, KY and can now get all 13 of our local digital channels. I also get very low level signals from Nashville, TN (65 miles away), but no picture or sound. I'm wondering if a bigger version of this antenna might just allow me to pick up those stations?

Wow

This antenna works great, before I got basically an unusable signal with my DigitalStream Converter Box. Now I get everything I want and more. Great design, I'm so happy!
